LIEUTENANT GOVERNOR OF MARYLAND INVITED KEYNOTE SPEAKER FOR 2010 ASIAN PACIFIC AMERICAN HERITAGE MONTH CELEBRATION

Rockville, MD (April 19, 2010) - On Saturday, May 1, 2010, the Asian Pacific American Chamber of Commerce (APACC) will host a special business networking luncheon to celebrate Asian Pacific American Heritage Month and the achievements of Asian American business owners in the Greater Washington, DC area. The event will be held from 11:30 am to 1:30 pm at the New Fortune Restaurant, 16515 S. Frederick Avenue in Gaithersburg, Maryland. The luncheon is open to Asian American business owners, in the Washington, DC, Maryland, and Northern Virginia regions, and county, state, and federal government partners.
The Honorable Anthony G. Brown, Lieutenant Governor of Maryland and the Honorable Isiah (Ike) Leggett, County Executive for Montgomery County, MD are the invited keynote speakers for this event. There will also be a special guest appearance by the reining Washington Metropolitan Miss Chinese American Pageant Queen Kathy Liu, 1st Runner-up Sandra Wu, and 2nd Runner-up Tingting Chen.
Asian Pacific Heritage Month was first established by the United States Congress in 1977 to recognize the contributions Asian and Pacific Island citizens make to American culture. In 1978, President Jimmy Carter made it an annual event and in 1990, President George H.W. Bush proclaimed the entire month of May to be Asian Pacific American Heritage Month. The month is celebrated with community festivals, government-sponsored activities, and educational activities.
Jon Liu, President of APACC and event organizer said, “This event gives us an opportunity to acknowledge the important work our members perform throughout the year to strengthen business relationships between the Asian Pacific business community in the Washington, DC metro area and companies in Asian countries.”
Tickets for the Asian Pacific American Heritage Month luncheon are $25.00 in advance and $35.00 at the door. Those planning to attend this event should RSVP by Sunday, April 25, 2010. Asian Pacific business owners, located in the Greater Washington, DC metro area, who are interested in joining APACC are encouraged to attend.
